Community
Simple Interactions has far reaching appeal to community settings where adults and children are interacting. Any community context in which adults and children have opportunities to interact together may be an appropriate context for applying the principles of Simple Interactions.
As one example, Simple Interactions has been used with City of Pittsburgh and Steel Valley School District Crossing Guards as a complement to Everyday Mentoring Training through The Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania. While Crossing Guards do not set foot in classrooms, they are instrumental figures in the learning environments of children. Many children throughout the city of Pittsburgh begin and end their days with crossing guards, giving these individuals a unique opportunity to influence the tone of a child’s day. Crossing guards have small windows of opportunity to interact with a child and a child’s family, yet serve as a trusted markers of care for these children as they safely journey to and from school.
